Practice of simple, compound, complex sentences

simple sentence - Burnham still wanted that water.(p176, 5paragraph)

Compound sentence 
     - Dedication Day was only a month away, and Harry Codman was ill, incapacitated by the same 
       stomach problem that had struck him during the summer.(p179, 6 paragraph, 6 line)
     - 

Complex sentence
       - After a brief standoff, McElroy and the pipelayers went back to Chicago.(p176, 4 paragraph.)

       - When Arnold took the photograph, hundreds of men were at work on the building, but its
          scale was so great that none of the men was immediately visible.(p177, 4 paragraph, 6line)
       - Yet she and her husband made no effort to move from the building, nor did they go to the 
         police.(p189, 5paragraph, 2 line)
